Fr. Waldman has served as pastor of St. Anthony Parish parish in Sullivan, Missouri since July of 2023. He is also pastor of Holy Martyrs of Japan and St. Gerald of Aurillac in St. Gerald. Previously, he served as pastor of St. Martin of Tours parish in St. Louis, and before then served as associate pastor at parishes in South Country and St. Charles.
Born in 1969 in Silver Spring, Maryland and raised in Rydal and Abington, Pennsylvania, he received his undergraduate degree from Princeton in 1991 where he concentrated his studies in architecture, archaeology, and philosophy. He became a Catholic at the age of 24, baptized at the Cathedral of St. Peter the Apostle in Jackson, Mississippi on the Easter Vigil of 1993.
While pursuing a Masters in Architecture from the University of Notre Dame (1995) he discerned a call to the priesthood. His decision to enter seminary was delayed for a number of years due to the death of his father in 1997. Other delays, including a change from pursuing ordination with an Institute of Apostolic Life to a Diocesan Clergy meant that he was not ordained until 2008.
"It was as if God was saying to me, 'Well, do you really want to be a priest? Let’s see how badly you desire it. I'll place obstacles in your way, and you will grow in patience and humility.'
“I love being a pastor. Even though I'm divided among three parishes. I like the fact that all three parishes are of a smaller population. Members of smaller parishes have a greater sense of ownership and belonging, and I try to encourage that. At times I feel a bit overworked, but that’s alright. In my professional life, I've never been happier."
As for hobbies, Waldman has a passion for music, especially that of J.S. Bach, and for literature and writing which hasn't produced much so far save dozens of notebooks. He's hoping something with take root and become a novel or something of interest.
A lot of his free time is spent playing with his buddy and best friend, his dog Dash, who is almost always by his side.
